Extracting a tooth should always be a last resort.

At Coomera Smiles, a tooth extraction may be necessary due to infection, overcrowding or orthodontic treatment.

Some reasons a tooth will need to be extracted include:

  • Removing teeth to make space for permanent teeth coming through.
  • Removal of a tooth to optimise your orthodontic treatment.
  • Impacted wisdom teeth.
  • Removing an infected tooth to prevent it from infecting other teeth.

If a tooth can’t be saved by a root canal treatment, then one of our Coomera Smiles dentists’ will recommend that you have the tooth removed. Tooth extraction is simply removing the tooth from the socket.

Before this procedure, our patients receive general local anaesthetic, and then our experienced dentist will proceed to pull out the tooth. If the tooth is too fragile a more careful, surgical approach will be required.
