Root Canal treatments are for patients who are experiencing discomfort and infection due to the damaged pulp or nerve in the root of the tooth.
What is a Root Canal?
A Root Canal Treatment is necessary when the middle of the tooth, the pulp, where the blood vessels and nerves sit becomes infected. This painful infection can then spread, leading to a dental abscess.
A Root Canal procedure begins by identifying the problem with an x-ray of the tooth. The dentist will then be able to target the area of infection and remove the pulp. Once the pulp has been removed the dentist cleans and fills the root canal.
A Root Canal generally requires 3 appointments and at Coomera Smiles we will do all we can to ensure you are as comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire treatment. If you have an infection of the pulp, you may not feel any pain at first. But if it is not treated, the infection will cause pain and swelling. In some cases, an abscess will form.
Your tooth might need a root canal if:
- Your teeth are very sensitive to heat
- Your teeth are very sensitive to the cold
